Not Over ‘I’m Drunk, I Love You’? Here Are 6 More Films With Best Friend Plot Lines

Call me cheesy, but plot lines on unrequited love between best friends always get me. Not that I relate to most of them, but it’s like rooting for the characters’ relationships to prosper in the end. It’s the same when we went to see I’m Drunk, I Love You recently.
The film had every cliché character from the hopeless romantic lead to the brutally honest gay friend. While watching it, I was reminded of other films that had the same plot lines, but equally interesting. If you haven’t gotten over Paulo Avelino endearing Maja Salvador and everything else, then you might want to binge-watch the films below.

#1 My Best Friend’s Wedding

The Way You Look Tonight - My Best Friend's Wedding HD

You’re probably living under a rock if you haven’t seen this yet. Kidding aside, Julia Roberts and Dermot Mulroney dancing to “The Way You Look Tonight” will always be my favorite part. Next to the chase scene during the last 30 minutes, of course. Not to mention that Rupert Everett was the perfect gay best friend in the film. Also, can we just say how brilliant it was to recruit Julia as Dermot’s “best man” and broke gender norms?

#2 Love, Rosie

Basically a film about bad timing between best friends Lily Collins and Sam Claflin, and probably one of the most frustrating book-to-movie adaptations ever. Whether you read it first or not doesn’t matter as one thing’s for certain: Don’t wait 40 years to say something to your best friend.

#3 Made of Honor

Similar to My Best Friend’s Wedding, this one focuses on Patrick Dempsey becoming the “maid of honor” at a wedding. Despite having slightly emotional scenes, the film’s more comedic than dramatic until the last second. Most especially in the test of strength scenes in Scotland.

#4 500 Days of Summer

Zoey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt weren’t technically besties in the film. But what got my attention in this film is the fact that there’s a disparity in emotions between the two. Joseph believes he has a girlfriend, while Zoey thinks she’s just sleeping with a best friend. Either way, ouch.

#5 13 Going On 30

Remember that time you wanted to time travel like Jennifer Garner did in this film? Then here we are actually inching closer to 30. Anyway, this is an endearing film that showed how the world can change depending on your actions. Also to not ignore and overlook your best friend no matter how dorky he can be as a teen. He might just grow up to be like Mark Ruffalo one day.

#6 One Day

You know those movies wherein you just want to hug everyone in it while bawling your eyes out? Yup, One Day is that kind of film. What I appreciate about the film is how realistic Joe Sturgess and Anne Hathaway’s problems are—as best friends and eventual partners. The downside is you’ll run out of tissues even before the film ends.
