What makes the place so special and why are they flocking the place? Scroll down to find out.

It’s the best place to hit the slopes

Niseko is known for its powder white snow that falls fresh almost every day which means a good skiing or snow-boarding experience every time—just ask Isabelle Daza-Semblat and Raymond Gutierrez. Snow days beat sunny days in this area, unless you like skiing in old, compacted snow.

It is also a foodie destination

Japan will always have an abundance of good food and there is no shortage of that even in the snowy slopes. Only here can you probably ski in the morning and have some fresh sashimi, uni, crab legs, and salmon roe for lunch. There’s fresh seafood all the time because the ocean is just an hour away from the area.

If you want meat, you can always go for glorious marbled beef that can be grilled or added to your shabu-shabu. We totally get it if you want to load up on protein especially after all the activities.

milkiest milk of my life

For dessert, make sure you try their Hokkaido milk soft serve. It doesn’t matter if there’s snow all around, just eat that ice cream.

Hot spring baths are peppered all over

Onsens are always a part of their culture. It is a public bath (some are private, don’t worry) where you can relax in the hot spring water. Perfect after a long hike or a snowboarding activity.

I once tried it, but in Nagano and not Niseko. It was intimidating at first because you have to strip naked before you enter. But, my, my, was it relaxing. I’d do it again if I could.

Snowmobiles are available for the adrenaline junkie

If skiing and snowboarding is not for you, you can always rent a snowmobile. You have the option to drive it yourself or have an instructor do it for you. Gretchen Barretto and her friends tried it and they had so much fun.

The rooms and villas can be luxurious

Fancy the floor-to-ceiling windows that offer a great view of Mount Yotei and the fresh snow outside? You too can experience that by booking a villa like Georgina Wilson and her family or a hotel like Gretchen. Either way, it’ll be the perfect place to chill and cuddle up.
