The Fiercest of Them All, GMA News TV’s model search show announced Peru Morena, a transgender woman, as their winner last Wednesday. During the run of the show, Peru outshone the local and international contestants. Despite her success, viewers from Canada questioned her gender and urged them to release a statement regarding the matter.
On Monday, Peru, a Filipino who was raised in Canada, announced that she was a transgender woman. The statement was made in a Facbook Live video posted by The Fiercest of Them All.
In her statement she said that her transition took place while she was in Canada, “ When you gave that statement…yup, ako po yung tinutukoy nila sa show (I’m the one they’re talking about). I’m a transgender woman, but you know, I’m all woman now. I don’t know how to explain it, but I was born a boy, not a girl. But now I changed, you know that, physically.”
