I first heard of LANY when a friend sent me a link of their song “ILYSB.” At first, it was like a little secret that we would sing along to in our group. Several months later, the song would be played everywhere and basically propelled the alt-rock trio’s popularity worldwide, including the Philippines. (It’s their second time here. The first was during Wanderland 2017.)
Earlier this year, LANY released their self-titled album. Vocalist Paul Jason Klein shared that it’s a story of “human life and emotion, and the ups and downs of day to day.” “It was written over the course of 15 months, and in those months we did 117 shows or more. A lot happens on the road, and when we get home, we get a chance to sit down and articulate what we experienced.”
The band also has fun moments outside of touring and performing. They live in a one-bedroom apartment-slash-studio, and know each other’s habits—particularly, their beauty routines. So we asked about the products they use and what they do to keep their personal hygiene in check. (And I’m sure you want to know why Paul’s hair looks so good.)

“Paul’s very clean. He smells really good and puts on lots of cologne. I’m just a mess. [Laughs] [But I like to use] a face hydrating lotion.”

“I like using this lotion from Aesop. That’s about it.”

“I take three or four showers a day. Is that bad? I think all my ideas happen in the shower. [Also,] I don’t wash my hair. Just because when I wash it, it gets big that I can’t fit through the door. I comb it out twice a month because it gets pretty dreaded. I use conditioner to make sure my head doesn’t stink. I don’t really like to use shampoo because it’s kinda grimey.”
