Learn all about ceramic arts (and use handmade ceramics, too!) at this ceramic arts festival

Tahanan Pottery October Fiesta (TPOF) 2024 is the annual celebration of Tahanan Pottery Shop and Studio anniversary. It will happen on Oct. 12, Saturday at the grounds of Tahanan Pottery Shop and Studio, located at 25 Sct. Tobias Brgy Laging Handa Quezon City.

The fiesta is a celebration of ceramic artistry, culture, and creativity. Whether seeking to enrich oneself in the art of ceramics or wanting to indulge the appetite, this event promises a meaningful day filled with food and pottery fun.

The main activity of the event is the opening of Sining Tahanan 2024, which is an exhibition that features the works of Tahanan resident artists, husband and wife team, Vicente and Rita Gudiño, Tahanan teachers, and Tahanan homegrown artists.

The event features Pottery Meets Appetite that indulges a passion for all things pottery and appetite for artisanal food. Fiesta-goers can buy any of the Ceramic Tableware from the exhibition or at Tahanan Pottery Shop and complimentary food and drinks from partner Pop-up Cafes such as Alejo Restaurant and Bar, Jacob’s Well, Boochamama Craft Kombucha, and Wild Thyme Plant-Based Food shall match the vibe of their ceramicware purchases.
With this event, Tahanan Pottery Shop and Studio give back to the underprivileged communities of Brgy. Paligsahan and Brgy. Laging Handa. Tahanan Pottery shall host and facilitate Art Workshops for the children in these communities this Dec. 7. “We aim to provide the children with an environment that fosters their well-being and creativity in the arts, said Rita Gudiño, Tahanan Pottery’s program director. We believe in nurturing the youth to have a great love for the arts and an aptitude for creative thinking through art production.

Tahanan Pottery is facilitating a tasa raffle to raise funds for the art workshops. Each raffle ticket guarantees a cup made by any of our Tahanan resident artists, Tahanan teachers, and Tahanan homegrown artists. Supporters enjoy their cups on the spot, with free coffee or drinks from our partner popup café during the day.

The Fiesta also features the Andito Ako mosaic mask making workshops, another fundraising activity during the event to support Tahanan’s advocacy. Supporters get to experience working with clay under the guidance of Tahanan Teachers to make a mask tile, which shall be permanently part of the Tahanan Andito Ako Mosaic Wall Mural located at the grounds of Tahanan Pottery Shop & Studio. There are four batches of workshops scheduled during the day. Interested participants can register at Tahanan Pottery’s website to book a slot.

Some of the other fun booths to check out are Tahanan’s Pottery Wheel Explo Photo Booth, Tahanan Pottery Ukay, and Tinampuso, a private enterprise, supporting the makers of Manobo-inspired accessories made by women artisans from Mindanao.

The official opening of the Fiesta happens from 2:30 to 4:10 p.m. right before the formal opening of Sining Tahanan 2024. The program includes cultural performances by Kontra-GaPi, the ethnic music and dance ensemble of the University of the Philippines, Diliman, Pottery Wheel demonstrations by Tahanan Teachers and local Master Potters, Clay Games, and the Laguna Clay Raffle. Vistors can get a chance to win Tahanan ceramic tableware and artisanal locally-made, artisanal chocolates made by Lasa Tsokolate.

Tahanan Pottery October Fiesta is presented by Laguna Clay Company, a US-based manufacturer and retailer of clays, ceramic raw materials, pottery tools, and equipment for over 70 years. Tahanan Pottery Shop & Studio is the official distributor of Laguna Clay Products in the Philippines. Our Fiesta also supports Design Week, organized by Design Center Philippines, a technical arm of the Department of Trade and Industry. With their simultaneous events happening, DCP and Tahanan Pottery Shop & Studio celebrate the promotion and development of Philippine Art and Design this October 2024.

Tahanan Pottery October Fiesta is a yearly testament to the rich tapestry of creativity flourishing within the walls of Tahanan Pottery Studio. It brings you up close to the passion of working with clay and the artistic diversity of Contemporary Philippine Ceramic Arts. This is what defines and moves the Tahanan Pottery community, and this is what they choose to share through this event.
