The art of mixology: The 1834 Epicurean Masterclass

Cocktail enthusiasts, bartenders, and connoisseurs were invited to Ginebra San Miguel’s exclusive 1834 Premiere Distilled Gin Epicurean Masterclass event, hosted by Paolo Abrera last October 29, 2024, at Kondwi Bar, Makati. This unique event offered a deep dive into the world of gin through mixology and pairings, featuring hands-on training from one of the industry’s most skilled professionals, 1834 Master Mixologist, Niño Cruz. Attendees had the chance to learn from an award-winning mixologist who has graced countless competitions, occasions, and momentous events all over the Philippines and different parts of the world.

This event was open to gin enthusiasts, bar owners, and key industry partners. The masterclass was designed to expand knowledge on using 1834 Premium Distilled Gin, “the Philippine gin the world has waited for.”

This masterclass gave attendees an immersive and interactive experience, covering everything from the fundamentals of beverage crafting to advanced techniques. Participants left with practical skills and insights on using 1834 Premiere Distilled Gin for their mixes in a way that can be applied to their creations, whether at home or in a professional setting.

Event Highlights

Workshop: Aside from the educational sessions, participants were able to engage in actual mixing workshop on creating cocktail mixes and food pairings, guided by cocktail expert, and multi-awarded mixologist, Mr. Niño Cruz. They were able to learn more about GSM’s 1834 Premiere Distilled Gin, the art of balancing flavors, mastering techniques, and using fresh ingredients to create stunning drinks.

Exclusive Tasting Sessions: Attendees were able to explore an array of flavors by tasting the cocktail they just learned to mix and experience the food pairings recommended for each drink in this session. This allowed them to understand the flavors used in their mixes and gain insights into pairing these drinks with food, enhancing the tasting experience, and learning how to identify key flavor profiles.

Kondwi Bar provided delectable food pairs that went perfectly with creations by our 1834 Master Mixologist. Who would have thought that you could incorporate the flavor of a dish considered one of the Filipino favorites with the 1834 Adobo Gin & Tonic, especially when matched with the crispy yet delicate flavor of Kangkong Nachos.

Another pairing that the attendees also got to experience was the 1834 Bee’s Knees, a cocktail made sweeter by fresh honey, paired with a golden, crispy, and flavorful Empanada Roll.

And to top it all off, gin enthusiasts also got a chance to try Kondwi’s specialties, Sinigang Pork Skewers and Mushroom chips paired with 1834’s unique cocktail, Gin & Co, with an unforgettable blend of Gin and coco. “Truly an epicurean experience!”, says Paolo Abrera, 1834 Brand Ambassador.

With this 1834 Epicurean masterclass, 1834 Premiere Distilled Gin has once again brought this experience to another step, making the brand closer to its patrons.
