“This is just the beginning,” said Mae Dichupa, Ayala Malls Head of Marketing & Zing, as a way to entice mall-goers to go to Ayala Malls Manila Bay as part of the company’s “Christmas in my Home” campaign, which highlights some of the most cherished Filipino family traditions of the season. The festivities will run from Dec. 1 to Jan. 5.
“This Christmas season, Ayala Malls Manila Bay is transforming its one-hectare garden into a festive wonderland, featuring the artwork of Robert Labayen, projection mapping, 3D LED animation, and a lot of activities for families and friends to share,” said Dichupa after the launch of the Christmas activities on Nov. 30.
The show featured a stunning 3D LED animation that depicted Filipino Christmas traditions, set to classic Christmas songs like “Kumukutikutitap” and “Joy to the World,” as well as performances by the Mandaluyong Children’s Choir and the rock band Lola Amour.
The evening also highlighted the “Pasko ng Pag-asa” campaign of the advocacy organization World Vision Philippines.
The light show and 3D LED displays are seen every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday, with shows every 30 minutes starting from 6:30 p.m.
Christmas wonderland
The mall’s one-hectare garden was transformed into a Christmas wonderland featuring the artworks of Filipino artist Labayen. “When we started to work with Labayen, the idea was to feature what sets the Filipino Christmas apart,” Dichupa said. “Even when you listen to our jingle, it talks about things that are uniquely Filipino, like bibingka, puto bumbong, and monito-monita gift exchange. You want to bring those things to the forefront of how we celebrate our Christmas.”
Dichupa added: “Ayala Malls Manila Bay is where patrons can create lasting memories with family and friends. This holiday season, we’ve curated exciting activities across all our malls to bring the magic and joy of Christmas to life.”
The Abueva Atrium currently features a giant parol installation and Santa’s Nook, where kids get to hang out with Santa every Sunday. Mall-goers can immerse themselves in the sounds of Christmas with the mall’s “Sounds of Home,” featuring live performances by Christmas chorale groups and buskers. They can savor local flavors from food trucks and explore charming holiday bazaars at the garden ring and fountain areas. Stilt walkers, LED angels, and other costumed performers are present as well.
Simbang Gabi
Christmas will not be complete without Simbang Gabi, which will be held in a beautifully decorated space that’s perfect for a moment of reflection and worship.
“The parol is a uniquely Filipino Christmas element, so are the angels. We want to celebrate the Filipino and the Filipino Christmas—this is really something that we purposely want to achieve,” Dichupa said.
Located in the heart of Entertainment City, Ayala Malls Manila Bay has become a premier destination for families, friends, and individuals seeking fun and memorable experiences. “What we’ve done here is create one-of-a-kind experiences to entice people. This is just one example of that.”
She added, “At the heart of everything we do are the consumers and how to serve them. There’s really an opportunity to create something special here that’s not available in other parts of Metro Manila.” Dichupa was referring to the various transformations that are possible for its one-hectare garden.
She continued, “This is definitely the time for coming together. There are shopping reasons, as well—we have a diverse retail offering that can satisfy the Christmas gifts that people need to buy, but at the same time, we’re also creating wonderful connections that really resonate with our Filipino traditions for Christmas,” said Dichupa.
