According to The SEA Games primer, we just “perceived” Marcos as corrupt

We keep saying that The SEA Games is a huge clusterfuck. At this point, we probably wrote about it multiple times. So why not make one more by putting their copywriter on blast?

The SEA Games’ copywriter must have remembered history class a bit differently than the rest of us. In the primer tweeted by @petratort, it starts off by saying that we’re “the first and only” colony of The United States (a lie and a weird flex, but okay). And then, they mentioned how we are a bunch of freedom-loving people (no one enjoys enslavement) by waging our bloodless revolutions.

“Filipinos are freedom-loving people, having waged two peaceful, bloodless revolutions against what were perceived as corrupt regimes,” The Spectator Map read. Uhm, what do they mean by perceived as? The Marcos family stole 10 billion dollars from us, while former President Joseph “Erap” Estrada left Manila in debt by four million pesos.  

Both former presidents, Ferdinand Marcos and Joseph Estrada, were on the World’s Ten Most Corrupt Leaders list in 2004. The year may have changed, but their political crimes haven’t.

Some Facebook users did a little digging. It turns out that this copy was lifted from our Department of Tourism’s website. If you click on the website right now, this copy filled with questionable factoids about the country will appear

If anybody needs a daily reminder that our government is rewriting our history, just take a look at our official event collateral and government website. Who knows how long our tourism site has been saying that we’ve just perceived political crimes as crimes? At least, we are aware now.

In a true, Gen Z manner, I’ll let this meme air out my grievances:
