Netflix’s number one non-English language series is soon coming to an intense and dramatic end

Forty-five billion won (or around $31 million) and coming close to death didn’t seem to be enough for Seong Gi-hun at the end of “Squid Game” Season 1. Instead, like any reasonable human being, he led a revolution against the shadowy architects behind the games, which came to a surprising yet screeching halt at the end of its second season.

What happens to Gi-hun and his accomplices? Do the games continue? Did Front Man unwittingly reveal his identity to Gi-hun?

These may be some of the burning questions “Squid Game” Season 2 left with its viewers following its cliffhanger ending. But, luckily, we won’t be waiting much. According to Netflix, its third and final season will be coming this June 27. Here’s everything we know so far.

Unlike the four years that passed inside the world of “Squid Game” and the three years between the first two seasons, we’ll be picking right up where we left off for its final run.

At the end of Season 2, Gi-hun’s revolt starts off well until Front Man, who has been masquerading as Player 001, betrays Gi-hun to halt the mutiny —not to mention, he also kills Gi-hun’s best friend Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan).

The upcoming third and final season will take place at the failed revolt’s fallout. According to “Squid Game” lead star Lee Jung-jae in an interview with Tudum, “I don’t think he knows yet. I think he’s blaming himself for everything that happened.”

Gi-hun, at the beginning of the next season, seems to have been brought back to square one—without his element of surprise and unaware of his enemy’s position. It looks like Gi-hun and Front Man’s chess match will take some time to play out before it reaches its inevitable conclusion.

“Squid Game” creator, director, and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk seems to feed into this burning rivalry in his letter announcing the series’ final season.

“Seong Gi-hun who vowed revenge at the end of Season 1 returns and joins the game again. Will he succeed in getting his revenge? Front Man doesn’t seem to be an easy opponent this time either. The fierce clash between their two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3, which will be brought to you next year.”
