Everything we know so far about the 2025 Met Gala

Following the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s spring exhibition “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” here’s what we can expect at the upcoming Costume Institute Benefit

The Met Gala, the fashion world’s most anticipated night, is happening on May 5 this year. The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Benefit will open the spring 2025 exhibition “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”

The exhibition draws inspiration from “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity” published by Monica L. Miller in 2009. The exhibition is expected to showcase and define the characteristics of dandy style, from the 18th century to the present.

Following that is the Gala’s dress code, “Tailored for You,” placing emphasis on suiting and menswear.

For the 2025 Met Gala, actor Colman Domingo, Formula One racer Lewis Hamilton, musician A$AP Rocky, musician and designer Pharrell Williams, and editor Anna Wintour will serve as co-chairs. Basketball star LeBron James will also be serving as an honorary chair. The chairs of the 2025 Met Gala were chosen for their influence in the realm of style.

While anticipated details like who’s attending and what’s happening at the gala are typically kept under wraps (we’ll only know once they walk the red carpet, and guests are typically prohibited from using their phones and social media once inside the museum), what we do know so far is that this year’s event will also see the revival of the host committee tradition.

The committee is composed of athletes like Simone Biles, Jonathan Owens, Angel Reese, and Sha’Carri Richardson; filmmakers Spike Lee, Tonya Lewis Lee, and Regina King; actors Ayo Edebiri, Audra McDonald, and Jeremy Pope; musicians Doechii, Usher, Tyla, Janelle Monae, and Andre 3000; author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie; artists Jordan Casteel, Rashid Johnson, and Kara Walker; playwrights Jeremy O. Harris and Branden Jacobs-Jenkins; and fashion figures Grace Wales Bonner, Edward Enninful, Dapper Dan, and Olivier Rousteing.
