While we all wait for the weird and wonderful every Oscars red carpet, the looks this year play it classy and timeless
If there was a word to describe the Oscars fashion on the red carpet at this year’s 97th Academy Awards, it would be elegant.
While there was no dress code or theme for the 2025 Oscars, the Hollywood stars seemed to make a collective choice. Women opted for looks that were refined and timeless, while some of the men took slightly more daring, color-vibrant approaches.
This year’s Oscars fashion featured many subtle yet dramatic styles, many of which were embroidered or paid homage to classic vintage aesthetics.
“Who are you wearing?” As Joan Rivers famously asked in the ’90s before celebrities entered the Dolby Theater in Hollywood. This year, the answer revealed a clear trend toward sophistication and class.
Shimmering statements
Many of the Oscars fashion ensembles illuminated the red carpet with their embellishments and jewels.
Demi Moore, nominated for “The Substance”, wore a crystal-embellished Giorgio Armani Privé dress and Chopard jewelry, embodying the night’s glittering trend.

Halle Berry also turned heads in a disco-ball inspired Christian Siriano dress paired with luxury jewelry from Italian designer Pomellato.

Selena Gomez, representing “Emilia Perez,” chose a formal Ralph Lauren ‘fit that highlighted the glowing bride-to-be. Her dress was inspired by Sophia Loren with an astounding 16,000 glass droplets adorning the piece.

Lupita Nyong’o also echoed vintage styles with her pleated ivory-colored Chanel dress, which consisted of over 22,000 elements of embroidery, including straps made from strings of pearls.

Emma Stone also appeared in a slinky, shiny custom Louis Vuitton gown, paired with sleek, 1920s-like styled hair.

Even Whoopi Goldberg took a more interesting approach with a metallic futuristic ball gown by Christian Siriano.

Vintage inspirations
Many of the Oscars 2025 looks seemed to echo vintage styles, from voluminous ball gowns to 1950s-style cuts.
The “Wicked” stars went regal as Cynthia Erivo arrived in a spectacular bottle green Louis Vuitton creation with a theatrical collar and bow.
While Ariana Grande wore an equally voluminous Schiaparelli gown from the Spring-Summer 2025 Haute Couture runway in pale pink, featuring over 190,000 crystal sequins, rhinestones, and cut beads on a tulle dress.
Mikey Madison (“Anora” Best Actress) donned a classic ’50s-style-like Dior featuring a pink skirt with a bow and black velvet bustier top, adorned with a sizeable Tiffany & Co. drop necklace.

Elle Fanning continued the trend of elegance in custom Givenchy Haute Couture, wearing a lace white dress with a coquettish black bow.

Zoe Saldaña, Best Supporting Actress for “Emilia Perez,” looked stunning in a custom Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello with layers of deep burgundy silk, an embroidered bustier, and net gloves.

While Michelle Yeoh’s bright blue Balenciaga dress seemed simple, its attractive train and cut was hard to miss.

Breaking the mold (but not too much)
While many of the looks were essentially classic, among Hollywood’s A-list stars, only a few opted for more unconventional looks.
Miley Cyrus, with her dyed eyebrows, was perhaps one of the more daring looks of the evening in a custom Alexander McQueen and Boucheron ensemble. While the gown was surprisingly simple, her mesh gloves and bleached eyebrows made that striking statement we’re looking for.

Lily-Rose Depp also opted for a sexier but still relatively classic look with a custom Chanel Haute Couture transparent black lace dress.

The gentlemen’s touch
On the men’s side, several celebrities didn’t play it safe, incorporating plenty of color and embellishments.
Jeff Goldblum wore a somewhat mismatched Prada look, with a tropical orchid-like brooch, a purple scarf, a floral shirt with a bowtie, and a cream suit jacket.

Actor and comedian Bowen Yang also chose floral flourishes, with an embroidered leather jacket by Etro that echoed 1920s art nouveau designs.

Among the more colorful Oscar men’s looks, Timothée Chalamet was perhaps the best dressed in a vibrant, butter-yellow Givenchy suit.

Colman Domingo also made a statement in a striking red Valentino suit paired with Omega accessories.

Meanwhile, Jeremy Strong, known for his discerning style, wore a smart metallic gold Loro Piana suit.

Andrew Garfield went for an all-brown ensemble from his suit jacket and pants and silk shirt, all the way to his shades and shoes.

Adrien Brody, Best Actor winner for “The Brutalist”, dressed more conservatively, in a Giorgio Armani Made to Measure suit and a shimmering distinctive brooch.

Edvin Ryding, star of “Young Royals,” wore a cream jacket, white shirt, and black trousers, accented by a plaid sash from Xander Zhou’s Spring 2025 collection with coquettish details, which seemed a subtle nod to Sweden and his regal role.

Perhaps the evening’s best tuxedo, however, was worn by Blackpink singer (and now “White Lotus” star) Lisa, whose Markgong ensemble put an elegant feminine spin on formal menswear with a bold red flower.
