‘Heartstopper’ story to conclude with feature film | Lifestyle.INQ

After three seasons, the beloved coming-of-age LGBTQIA+ rom-com “Heartstopper” is soon seeing its end. On the anniversary of “Heartstopper”’s very first episode release, Netflix announced that a movie adaptation of the yet-to-be-published final volume of Alice Oseman’s graphic novel will start filming this summer.

The film will also be written by Oseman, and will feature the return of Kit Connor and Joe Locke as Nick and Charlie.

“I am completely overjoyed that we will get to tell the end of the ‘Heartstopper’ story,” Oseman says through Netflix’s release. “I’m so grateful to everyone who has worked hard to make this possible and to the incredible fans of ‘Heartstopper’ for your patience and passion. I cannot wait to bring this story to a magical conclusion.”

The film follows Nick, Charlie, and their friends as they navigate life’s milestones as they grow up and take their relationships to new levels. “After season 3, the couple is inseparable. But, with Nick preparing to leave for university and Charlie finding new independence at school, the reality of a long-distance relationship begins to weigh on them. Doubts take hold, and their relationship faces its biggest challenge yet,” Netflix states in a release.

Other cast members joining Connor and Locke have yet to be revealed.

“Heartstopper” is a critically acclaimed series, winning awards such as the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Kids & Family Programming – Live Action, and Children’s and Family Emmy Awards for several categories, including Outstanding Young Teen Series and Outstanding Writing for a Young Teen Program.
