Kids’ shows aren’t quite what they used to be (at least for my salty-ass generation that grew up on “Teen Titans” and “Avatar: The Last Airbender”). But when the stop-motion animated series “The Tiny Chef Show” announced its cancellation on Nickelodeon—that’s a scene that can make even grown men cry. And the thing is, it’s my first time hearing about this show.
Instead of a basic press release conveying the sad news, “The Tiny Chef Show” showrunners released a short of their lovely green cook receiving a call from Nickelodeon and finding out that their show got canceled.

In a heartbreaking scene where excitement quickly turns to disappointment, we see Tiny Chef happily accepting the call from the network. After all, he’s got a lot of ideas to share for a possible fourth season. But, the mood quickly goes sour after being told the grim news.
Coming off a successful third season, where they won an Emmy for Outstanding Preschool Animated Series and an Annie for Best Animated Television/Broadcast Production for Preschool Children, confusion set in for the herbivore chef. Caught off guard and in disbelief, he turns to bargaining, promising groundbreaking ideas for a fourth season, and later sharing worries about the job security of the showrunners.
And in an even more heartbreaking moment, after he’s accepted the situation, he drops the call, straightens himself up to continue with his chores, and eventually breaks down in tears.

What makes this all the more saddening? Right before sharing the “Tiny Chef needs your help” video, they posted about the incoming Nickelodeon call on Instagram.
“Chef is getting a call from Mickeflodeon today!!!! Fingers crossed evwybody. Chef thinks this is the green light call so he’s deep cleaning the tree stump for good energy! Tune in tomorrow for the big news update!!!”
And as it turns out, it wasn’t a green light call. It couldn’t have been worse.
“Without the support of a major network we need crowd funding to keep cookin’ over here. Yesh this es weal! We want to thank @nickelodeon for giving Chef two blamazing seasons and all the besties he made there. Chef wouldn’t want anyone to blame his friends over there, he’s just deeply sad he doesn’t get to continue hosting a show he adores,” shares the Tiny Chef team on social media.
But this isn’t the end for the world’s tiniest cooking show. Despite losing the backing of a major network, there are many ways to lend Tiny Chef your support:
