For local cinephiles, the past few weeks have been rife with film bayanihan. Local studios like TBA, Cinema One Originals and more opened their movie database to help tide everyone over through enhanced community quarantine.
If you’ve also begun going through the offerings of global cinema, then we have good news for you: Film history and culture non-profit American Cinematheque has decided to go virtual, adding to the roster of quality films available online. For their debut, they uploaded the extremely rare documentary, “The Little Story of Gwen from French Brittany” for public viewing on their YouTube.
The docu short was directed by legendary French filmmaker and Oscar winner Agnès Varda, following her friendship with American Cinematheque’s current head programmer, Gwen Deglise.

As Deadline reports, Deglise had this to say about the film’s release, “Today, now as Head Programmer of the organization, I think back fondly on all the memories with Agnès including her encouragement 26 years ago to move to L.A. and to seek out the American Cinematheque. I cherish the long evenings spent together planning her events at the AC, as well as the wisdom she offered at many of life’s important moments. Of her many gifts: her curiosity was limitless, her appetite for life boundless. The endless inventiveness of her art shines through in her films and was inspiring to witness, and a privilege to be close to.”
