Learn how to draw Pixar’s characters straight from the artists

Are your drawing skills a little rusty? Do you miss that segment on the Disney Channel when studio artists taught you how to draw Mickey Mouse? Then you might want to find your sketchbook for this one: Pixar’s artists are now offering drawing lessons free of charge.

The animation giant’s YouTube channel serves as the home to these drawing tutorials. Pixar artists give these through step-by-step breakdowns, recreating some of Pixar’s recent characters. Among the first uploaded tutorials is the blueish elf Barley Lightfoot from “Onward” as taught by story supervisor Kelsey Mann, as well as “Canada’s greatest stuntman” Duke Caboom from “Toy Story 4,” as taught by animator Emilie Goulet.

And just as any drawing process—sorry, none of that “How to Draw an Owl” meme here—artists start with line art, filling in the details as they go through the technique. Those who’ve followed along are encouraged to share their masterpieces online with the hashtag #DrawWithPixar.
