Where to eat and drink in the South this week

The internet broke into a frenzy when someone confirmed that the halfway point between north and south is Ortigas. While I’ll be happy to go meet my north friends halfway, we all know we’ll still end up in Makati anyway (no offense, Mandaluyong).

It’s not me being picky (I’m technically from the west so I have no interest whatsoever in pushing the south agenda—if there really is one), it’s just that there are far more interesting, not to mention new, eating and drinking places in the south (Makati really).

To prove this fact, here are seven new places you can grab a bite or a drink at in Makati, should you find your way there, which, let’s face it, is very likely to happen.

Motto Motto

Serendra, McKinley Parkway, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig

If you and your friends are early risers, or should you need a decent breakfast place after a night of going out, Motto Motto in Serendra is your best bet with their all-day breakfast and an expansive Japanese menu that’s available as early as 8 a.m.

Cicchetti

8th Flr. MDI Corporate Center, 10th Ave. cor. 39th St., Bonifacio Global City, Taguig

Fancy some Italian fare? BGC’s Cicchetti offers elevated Italian classics like pasta cooked extra al dente, small bites, burrata, and cannoli to name a few. They also have a boozy brunch promo where diners can enjoy unlimited glasses of Prosecco, wine, and other drinks from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. every weekend.

La Collina Restaurant and Bar

4558 Molina St. Brgy. Poblacion, Makati

Spanish flavors meet Italian finesse at Poblacion’s newest restaurant and bar. Vibrant interiors will meet you when you enter La Collina, where you can taste a seamless mix of these two cuisines with their takes on comfort food like risotto (cleverly rolled into cheesy balls), and tender steaks and lamb cuts. Did we mention they also have a bar?

Ms. Gee

5666 Don Pedro St. Brgy. Poblacion, Makati

From the people behind Lan Kwai in Katipunan comes a new speakeasy in Poblacion called Ms. Gee. Apart from the DJ sets hosted during certain nights, Chinese dishes also await like their customizable bowl that lets you choose between Hong Kong Roast Duck or U.S. Beef Rib Finger to go with either their cilantro Yang Chow rice or noodle soup.

Hoodwink x Kaffee

Unit A, Republic Glass Bldg. 196 Salcedo St. Legazpi Village, Makati

Streetwear store Hoodwink has teamed up with The Curator on a new store on Aguirre St. in Legazpi Village. Hoodwink x Kaffee lets you can order your favorite cup of coffee along with some cocktails on the first floor and shop for your favorite streetwear brands upstairs.

Johnnie Walker House

One of the biggest Scotch whisky brands in the world, Johnnie Walker has established its biggest pop-up yet (also called Johnnie Walker House) yet in Manila, and it’s located in Poblacion. Philippine Bartender of the Year 2019 Lester Ligon is in charge of the Highball Bar and cocktails at the House. There will also be whisky flights that feature the full range of the brand.

The pop-up will be there until May 10.
