So, we asked some of Cebu’s guys and dolls who the one person in the world they would most like to meet, and where they would take him or her.
Edwin Ao, 34, fashion designer
I would like to meet the fashion designer Martin Margiela and bring him to Bantayan Island. The elusive Belgian designer who has never had his picture taken is sure to enjoy the crystal blue waters and white sands of Bantayan. His iconic Incognito lunettes de soleil (sunglasses) would be the perfect accessory for viewing the island’s ambient sunset. Maybe he’d have his picture taken then.
I’d like to meet Shia LaBeouf, because I see a lot of myself in him. I first found him cool (not in a gay way, but in a man way) way back when he was the star of a Disney Channel show. I really identified with him because of his weird sense of humor and his oh-so-funny facial expressions. From what I’ve read about him, he loves comic books and short films just as I do. So he’d probably enjoy one of my favorite places in Cebu as well—Malapascua Island.
Since we’re so much alike, I think he would enjoy the fresh seafood there bought straight from the fishermen’s boat and perhaps even some exotic Filipino dishes. I’d also take him jumping off cliffs and swimming so he can enjoy the rich underwater life that Malapascua has to offer.
I would love to meet Carol Guzy. After stumbling upon her amazing work as a photojournalist, I was immediately inspired by how her pictures capture raw human emotions from all around world – especially when she takes photos of calamities and wars. They are all so moving.
It would be amazing to have her here in Cebu to capture the island’s people during Sinulog or even just an ordinary day at the Basilica of Santo Niño. I believe she can capture a great moment of a Cebuano.
My husband and I absolutely love to cook and eat so I’d love to meet chef of the century, Joel Robuchon. I’d take him to our rest house in San Remigio, a very simple yet incredibly scenic town in northern Cebu. There he can teach us how to cook, relax on the beach, and enjoy some the best things Cebu has to offer, like lechon, lechon and more lechon!
I would love to meet the legendary Jacques Cousteau’s son, Jean-Michel Cousteau, who also produced the “Ocean Adventures” series.
Of course, I’d take him scuba diving in Mactan, Moalboal and Malapascua. He should consider featuring Cebu on his series.
