Our favorite student heist film is turning into a series

When “Bad Genius” hit Philippine theaters in 2017, it became many things: a gateway film to Thai cinema, our favorite student heist film and a new definition of adrenaline rush. But if you fell short on the latter, a series adaptation might serve you well.

Bangkok Post reports that the film’s production arm Gross Domestic Happiness (GDH) will be adapting “Bad Genius” into a series for WeTV—a streaming app that aims to expand its network this year. GDH has already posted a series of teasers on Instagram, clueing us into its release date: “Let’s come together as a team. August 3.”

So, who’s in the cast? BNK48’s June (who’ll play Lynn) revealed in an Instagram post she’s part of the pack along with Jaonaay Jinjett Wattanasin, Nana Sawanya and Ice Paris.

Thriller heist film “Bad Genius” follows a group of students who find a way to earn money by helping students cheat in perfectly rehearsed methods (or are they?) Aside from its thriller heist nature, the film also delves into themes of friendship, educational systems, poverty and exploitation of labor.

Now that this crazy-ass story (with top tier editing) is turning into a TV series, we’re counting on the studio to feed us the same amount of terror and frustration—or possibly even more. Will the tricks stay the same? Will they tweak some of their decisions? Am I still screaming all my leftover nervousness in the cinema?

“Bad Genius: The Series” is dropping on WeTV on Aug. 3. Though the app is available in the Philippines, we have yet to find out if we’ll be able to stream this remake. We’re ready when they are.
