It’s official―we’re saying goodbye to “Haikyuu!!,” the sports manga that charmed us all with its lovable characters, exciting volleyball matches and compelling storylines.
The series’ official Twitter account confirmed that the manga will end next week, July 20 (which is interestingly Aobajohsai High captain Tooru Oikawa’s birthday. Hmm, coincidence?).

The account also posted new artwork in honor of the final chapter featuring Hinata Shoyo and Kageyama Tobio, the manga’s main characters, in full gear, with a little throwback bit―middle-school era Hinata and Kageyama sizing each other up in the background, just as they did at the beginning of the series.
The manga began in 2012, taking readers through the Karasuno High team’s volleyball journey and court rivalry (mostly from Hinata and Kageyama), which we’ve witnessed for the past eight years.
The timing of the manga’s ending would have coincided with the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which was postponed until summer next year. Hinata, Kageyama and Karasuno’s libero Nishinoya Yu even got to play alongside Japan’s men’s national volleyball team (or at least, in a collaboration video released last year).

Whether you’re excited for (or dreading) the ending, one thing’s for sure―it’s going to be an emotional ride. The anime series is far from ending, though―Netflix just made all four seasons available for streaming.
