Samsung face-off 2012, to be staged by Inquirer Lifestyle and Look Magazine at the grand ballroom of Dusit Thani Manila Hotel on Sept. 5, will showcase the latest bridal creations of 38 of the country’s top designers.
Seasoned as well as emerging designers are offering a wide range of designs—from structured minimalist to romantic intricate frocks—for the biggest bridal fashion show this year, to be directed by Jackie Aquino.
In the ballroom foyer is a Filipino Bridal Heritage Exhibit, sponsored by Champion Infinity. On display will be famous wedding gowns by designers Pitoy Moreno, Ben Farrales, Auggie Cordero, Nolie Hans, Mike de la Rosa, Philip Rodriguez, Randy Ortiz and Rhett Eala.
On this spread is a preview of what they will show.
“I’m creating an ivory serpentine bridal gown with a bullion-embroidered bodice and peplum tiered silk cocoon skirt.”—Randy Ortiz
“I will be doing a column dress in bias-cut silk satin with an organdy jacket that has sculpted sleeves. This design is for practical, no-fuss weddings along the lines of Mainbocher’s creation for the Duchess of Windsor.”—Oj Hofer
“My design is a modern romantic piece, utilizing digital print and screen printing as a fabric treatment. I’m trying to explore modern technology for something as traditional as the wedding gown.”—Patrice Ramos-Diaz
“Tan-Gan’s Indigenous Couture is a mix of piña, knit and lacework. It will be a resort wedding gown that is well designed to endure travel. A mix feel of vintage, old world elegance, mélange of western influence in an Asian form.”—Lulu Tan-Gan
“I’m opting for a soft structured look.”—Jerome Salaya Ang
“I will be coming up with a structured wedding gown employing an intricate 3D pattern technique and paneled layering in duchess satin. My design aesthetic is more on the form and function with focus on cut and proportion.”—Ronaldo Arnaldo
“It has a classic cut but quite modern in terms of fabric. It’s hand-painted, embroidered and inspired by an artwork of Filipino painter Sibayan.”—Vania Romoff
“It’s a modern resort wedding gown made of tulle and accented with beaded embroidered vines and ruched tulle on the bodice.”—Philip Rodriguez
Other participating designers in the fashion show include Ivar Aseron, Joey Samson, Martin Bautista, Noel Crisostomo, Joel Escober and Jerome Lorico.
