Fresh from one of its largest makeovers ever, the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino officially launched its recently renovated grand lobby on July 27.
Guests were treated to cocktails, a delicious spread of pastries by chef Daniel Lejoux, and a fashion show by Cebu’s best designers—Philip Rodriguez, Cary Santiago, Protacio Empaces Jr., Edwin Ao, Jun Escario.
But the highlight of the evening was the lobby itself—its sleek, contemporary look and state-of-the-art sound and lights system. A special audio-visual presentation projected on the lobby’s wide white walls detailed the re-design.
Even the ribbon-cutting ceremony went digital. After a short toast, Tourism Undersecretary Ma. Theresa Martinez, Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, Rep. Rachel “Cutie” del Mar and Mariquita Yeung virtually “cut” the red ribbon, also projected on the walls.
The recent renovation, worth P100 million, is the Waterfront lobby’s first in 15 years, says Weslie Gatchalian, Waterfront Philippines Inc. assistant to the president. The tall, potted palm trees are now gone, making the lobby appear even bigger. The installation of LED lights has also brightened up the area.
The front desk/reception area is more spacious, too. WCCHC tapped Rajo Laurel to redesign its staff’s uniform.
The whole lobby is a dining area, as well. Wine enthusiasts can find here the Enomatic Elite Wine Dispenser, which serves wine in a full glass, half glass (60 ml), or just for tasting (25 ml). The dispenser holds eight bottles. To gain access, one must acquire a Wine Card from the hotel.
Aside from the lobby, WCCHC will also renovate its convention center, and a lower-level lobby will be built to accommodate large-group check-ins.
“Our mission here is to be the largest integrated casino resort in the Visayas-Mindanao region,” says Gatchalian.
