Swedish goodness in Manila

Tretorn launched its first stand-alone boutique in Manila, making it the first in Asia and third in the world.

Few brands have withstood the test of time and trends, and Swedish footwear brand Tretorn is one such brand. Back in grade school, I begged my mom for my very own pair of white canvas sneakers with the distinctive U stitched in a different color or pattern. I finally got my pair, and had my classmates sign it with black marker (it was the rage then), to my mom’s dismay.

Today, that same low-cut tennis shoe design is still alive and kicking and joined by newer styles, like “lace-less” slip-ons with brightly colored elastic bands, neon sneakers, and comfortable rain boots in fun colors—perfect for the wet season.

More than aesthetic appeal, this hundred-year-old brand that used to manufacture tires also has close ties to tennis, and was a favorite among avid tennis players back in the day. The shoes are made from lightweight material, lessening burden on the legs and feet during outdoor activities, while the vulcanized rubber soles provide grip and traction from different surfaces.
The combination of style and function make the shoes versatile enough to be taken for a casual night out in the city or camping in the woods.

Visit the Tretorn boutique at the 3/F, Sports Loop, Robinsons Galleria Mall. Tretorn is also available at Res-Toe-Run, Bratpack, Rustan’s, Urban Athletics, Olympic Village and Planet Sports.
