More close encounters with spirits of the dead

My column last week (Sept. 4, 2012) drew an immediate reaction from Dr. Chan, an audiologist (i.e. hearing loss specialist). Via SMS, he recounted an even more extraordinary encounter with the dead, which was witnessed by at least two persons in his clinic.

His fantastic story: “I have a patient from Sulu, who loves me so much and always brings me local delicacies. He makes sure that his daughter who lives in Manila comes with him to see me every two months.

“One Saturday, my clinic secretary reported that this elderly patient had come to buy hearing aid batteries, and was sad to learn that I was not around. He came on his usual wheelchair assisted by his nurse.

“Two days later, I met his daughter at Serendra who told me that her father had died three weeks ago. When I went back to the clinic, my secretary described the same elderly patient on a wheelchair who bought batteries from her.

“So, I looked for the receipt and found it. He really came to the clinic that day, bought batteries and even paid for them.”

Dr. Chan said this happened about three or four years ago and this patient on a wheelchair was seen by no less than two persons in the clinic.

The dead signing receipts

Stories about the dead signing documents or receipts are not really new to me. My former secretary experienced the same thing when a delivery man from UPS came to deliver some quartz crystals I had ordered from a jewelry factory in Wyoming, US.

The delivery man was about to leave when he checked if the delivery receipt had been signed by my secretary. When he looked at the delivery receipt, he saw that it had already been signed by “Eva.” My former secretary took a look at it and told me later that there was indeed the signature, “Eva.”

Now, Eva was the name of the spirit who stayed in the restroom of my office. My two secretaries had seen her often, and she even told them her name was Eva. Some students and visitors have also felt the presence of a female spirit in that restroom.

But she has since left my office for reasons we do not know. We never did anything to make her leave, since she was a friendly and harmless ghost.

But the case that Dr. Chan related to me is something new and puzzling. Why? First, if that patient was already dead when he visited his clinic on a wheelchair, who was the nurse pushing the wheelchair? Was she also dead? But Dr. Chan said the nurse is still very much alive.

Second, where did the money that the dead patient gave to the secretary come from? It would have been interesting if somebody had taken note of the serial number of the money, so it could be checked with records of the Central Bank.

In fact, I remember having done that kind of verification with the Central Bank involving money received from the spirit world.

Years ago, a young woman who had been befriended by dwendes or elves told me that money would just appear in her empty pocket or wallet when she needed to buy something.

She said her invisible friends, whom she could see and talk to, gave her the money. Her mother confirmed that money, ranging from P100 bills to sometimes P500 bills, would simply appear anywhere in the house. The amount, however, never exceeded P500.

I suggested to the mother that next time the elves gave her daughter money, she should get the serial number and tell me. One day the mother called and said a P100 bill had appeared from nowhere and she gave me the serial number.

Serial number

I had a colleague working with the Records Department of the Central Bank. I gave her the serial number and she told me there was such a serial number in a 1993 series. Question: If that money was not stolen, where did it come from? The elves said they did not steal it from anybody.

Tupperware party

Here’s another story which had been written about in magazines, and which I also mentioned in one of my books.

One day, a sales representative of Tupperware got a call from a woman and asked if she could come to their party to make a demonstration. When the sales representative arrived in the house on the appointed date, she saw eight to 10 women there.

After the presentation of the features of the cookware, she got orders from those who wanted to buy it. The product was supposed to be delivered a week later.

All the 10 lady guests ordered the product and signed their names and addresses in the order form.

A week later, when the sales representative was to deliver the orders, she discovered that all those present in that party were no longer alive. It was a party of ghosts!

When I met Tony Gonzales, who was president of that company, I asked if he knew that story, and he said he had heard of it and even told me the name of the sales representative.

When I asked Tony how I could get in touch with her, he said he learned that the woman had already migrated to the US.

I do not doubt such an incident really took place.
