Even rock stars have mothers | Lifestyle.INQ

ROCK LEGENDS are born to fame. But before that, they are born to mothers.

“Mama, I just killed a man,

Put a gun against his head

Pulled my trigger,

Now he’s dead…”

Who would you tell first if you killed a man?

Your mother.

Why? So she’ll freak out. Yup, that’s right.

Next, it’s because only your mother will hold your face and then pull you to her whole self, wishing she could hide you from the world.

I’m sorry, but even if a mother’s child was a serial killer, the fruit of her womb will never suffer the penalty of death. Because she is his mother.

“Mama, oooh, didn’t mean to make you cry

If I’m not back again this time tomorrow,

Carry on, carry on…”

This is a grown man. But he is more bothered about his mother crying than by the midnight he has forced on both their lives. Don’t cry, mommy.

Please don’t cry.

Anyone I see crying can cry themselves a Baltic Sea. But, please, not you, my mother.

“Scaramouche, Scaramouche,

Will you do the Fandango?

Thunderbolt and lightning,

Very,very frightening, me.

Mama Mia, Mama Mia…”

When we were kids and a giant of a storm would stage its Final Performance, rain would gush from heaven’s faucets and electric bowels, and thunderbolts and lightning would shake your room as got blinded by the lights—much like the paparazzi.

Who would get brazenly awakened by frightened bands of little kiddie feet?

Mommy.

“Mommy! The thunder is so loud and the lightning will enter my bedroom and shoot me!”

And Mommy would end up sleeping with a daddy comfortably snoozing, with five kids beside her. Me? I would lay my head on my mommy’s upper arms because they were like pillows—soft and nice-smelling.

“Mama mia, Mama mia…”

Thus went the Bohemian Rhapsody of the late Freddie Mercury and Queen, the famed rock band.

Mercury, holding in the palm of his hand the Wembley Stadium in London with a sold-out capacity of 5,000 people, for three live performances.

Who watched proudly? Happily? Without regret that her son had HIV and would soon die of AIDS? Who owns the only heart that could take this, and not break down into tears, but stand up and cheer?

Only a mommy.
