PacSafe’s newest collection gives new life to discarded nylon

According to a report by the United Nations Environment Programme, we produce about 300 million tonnes of plastic; and 8 million tonnes of waste ends up in the ocean every year. Our country is ranked as the third largest source of plastic discarded in the ocean, generating 2.7 million tonnes of plastic waste annually.

640,000 tonnes of fishing gear are dumped in the ocean annually, accounting for half of the plastic waste polluting the seas and trapping marine life.

To combat this issue, many companies have made efforts to reduce the use of single-use plastics and reusing plastic waste recovered from landfills and the ocean—and PacSafe is one of them. With a vow to “protect what’s valuable,” the travel brand launched the Econyl® Collection: a line that recreates their best-selling anti-theft bags using regenerated fabric from fishing nets and discarded nylon.

Their newest collection highlights pieces from two of their best-selling collections, the Venturesafe and the Metrosafe styles. The Venturesafe bags are fitted with pop-and-lock security clips and a Roobar™ sport locking system.

The Metrosafe bags, meanwhile, are fitted with turn-and-lock security hooks as well as Lockabout™ and zip security clips. Both collections are made with the eXomesh® slashguard technology and RFID-safe blocking pockets.

The travel brand launched their latest collection by pledging their support to Save Philippine Seas, an organization that hopes to protect the country’s marine resources through educational campaigns and community-based projects; and World Wide Fund Philippines, an organization that champions conservation in areas that rely on biodiversity.

“PacSafe was founded out of a passion for adventure and exploration, and with that comes a deep love of our planet and preserving its natural beauty,” said Magnus McGlashan, the co-founder of PacSafe. “Our partnership with Econyl® means less plastic in our oceans and landfills, and fewer resources used to create new products.”

The Pacsafe Econyl® Collection is currently available in all Pacsafe and Urbanize branches, as well as the SM Department Store, Rustan’s, Robinsons Department Store, Duty Free, Fashion Rack, The Travel Club, Bratpack, ROX, and Outdoors by SM stores.
