Asian-American label 88rising is on the way to take over the internet again—this time, through a show..
The label had a first-look deal with Sony Pictures Television to produce a series on Asian culture, Asian music and everything under the sun. Founder and CEO Sean Miyashiro says, “our company was founded on the goal of providing more authentic representation of Asian and Asian Americans and giving them a platform and an opportunity to be at the center of stories.”
“We are incredibly impressed with all that 88rising has achieved in music, media and storytelling. We love everything they stand for and are thrilled to help bring their very unique and important Asian and Asian American stories to television and for the chance to work with their brilliant roster of artists,” says Glenn Adilman, the EVP of comedy development at Sony Pictures Television.
88rising’s current artists include Rich Brian, NIKI, Keith Ape, and Dumbfounded, among others. The company has also collaborated with South Korean rapper CL, Yaeji, Phum Viphurit and Rina Sawayama. What do we want? More spotlight on more untapped Asian talents out there (and some well-deserved screen time on our faves too, OFC.)
