Things might not get easier in the Figuring Life Out Department, but at least we have films like Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit’s to keep us company. There’s a masterclass on teenage identity and confusion in “Mary is Happy, Mary is Happy,” the fleeting process of life in “Die Tomorrow,” and, of course, one on confronting internal and external ghosts in “Happy Old Year.”
If the Thai filmmaker’s unconventional, existential storytelling is your thing, here’s some good news. Nawapol is bringing something new to the table (a.k.a. our Letterboxd accounts in semi-drought), and it’s tentatively called “Fast and Feel Love.”
Yesterday, Oct. 24, he made the announcement on his pages with a visual sneak peek presenting four characters. “[Proud] to announce that I’ve [begun] the production of my new film. This one is the first work of my new phase of filmmaking. So it would be [totally] different from previous works (but it’s exciting, isn’t it?)” he revealed on Instagram.
Starring Nat Kitcharit, Urassaya Sperbund, Anusara Korsamphan, and Primmy Wipawee Patnasiri, “Fast and Feel Love” is said to be an “action film of our daily life and love,” following folks aged 30 and above.
For his eighth feature film, Nawapol is taking the helm in directing, writing, and producing. “Yeah the working title could make you look for Vin Diesel. We [tried] to contact him but he’s busy with ‘Fast 10,’” the filmmaker quipped. Hmm, I’m sensing some quarter-life existential dread meets tongue-in-cheek (dark) comedy up in here.
“Fast and Feel Love” is currently in production, and is set to premiere in 2022. If you’re looking for more Asian films on your radar, mind if we recommend some potential gateway films?
