Ooh be gah! The Sims 4 will be free to play in October

It looks like we don’t need to wait until Christmas (and someone nice enough to pay attention to our wish list). Everyone’s favorite life simulation game-slash-coping mechanism is finally going free to play.

Electronic Arts and Maxis revealed on Wednesday, Sept. 14 that the base game of The Sims 4 can be downloaded for free by Windows PC, Mac, and console users starting Oct. 18, making the experience more accessible to broke Earthly Simmers like us.

“We’ve welcomed millions of players to The Sims™ and watched in awe as they unleashed their imaginations, discovered and connected with ideas, experiences and versions of themselves, both in-game and real life,” the official announcement said. “Our community has continued to inspire us with the billions of unique Sims they’ve created, the countless stories they’ve told, and the remarkable builds they’ve designed.”

There’s still something for those who’ve already bought the game: Players can claim the Desert Luxe Kit for free from Sept. 14 to Oct. 17. It contains neutral-toned furniture, among other stuff that scream “modern oasis” for your Sims’ cozy space. All you have to do is head to the main menu to claim upon logging in.

It’s definitely a good time to be knee-deep into the game, as the team also said new “packs, kits, and Sims Delivery Express drops” are on the way. More information about these additions can be found in the “Behind The Sims Summit,” a special-edition stream premiering on Oct. 18, 10 a.m. PDT (Oct. 19, 1 a.m. in the Philippines) via The Sims’ official YouTube and Twitch channels.

What else can we say? We’re ready to spend 12 hours straight deciding on our look, baby traits, and family kitchen recipe to master. Veena fredishay. (Let’s play.)
