On Nov. 24, SBTown president Geong Seong Han (a.k.a. Tatang Robin, SB19’s producer) introduced YGIG along with their debut single “Shaba Shaba,” in a media conference in Quezon City. After SB19’s success, SBTown finally presents their first-ever girl group.
The P-pop girl collective consists of seven members: Alexei, Maeg, JM, Vien, Hazelyn, Jewel, and former “The Voice Kids” finalist Darlene. According to their Korean trainer Adie Hong, the girls underwent extreme lessons for four years amid the pandemic.
“They did not give up, and they fully trust the company. They sincerely participated in the training, even offline [or] online. I want to tell you that our YGIG members are very patient, sincere, and passionate about their duty,” Adie said.
The media con also acknowledged the rising P-pop culture here, particularly the existence of girl groups like BINI, MNL48, and KAIA. Geong also shared how the bigger boy band fandoms dominated our local music scene. Considering Korea’s current sitch, he said that girl groups are getting more attention.
As for what comes with the “Shaba Shaba” vibes, Darlene said that it’s about a girl who cast a love spell to the person she likes. “Shaba Shaba” is also a more playful phrase of “Siya ba?” in hip-hop form.
