4 art exhibitions you should visit this month

Being exposed to art has many benefits. Aside from helping artists and art enthusiasts alike find inspiration, immersing yourself in art also helps improve overall well-being by lowering rates of anxiety and depression and increasing satisfaction with your life.

Welcome Spring, Art Circle Gallery

4/F The Art Plaza, Shangri-la Plaza Mall, Mandaluyong City
Jan. 13 to 19

In the Lunisolar calendar, spring begins on the first day of the first month of the year, and is seen as a symbol of rebirth in many cultures. The season is symbolized by cherry blossoms, which shine through dark winter skies and are associated with a time of renewal. Focusing on the image of cherry blossoms in the spring, Manuel Baldemor’s “Welcome Spring” focuses on the anticipation of new life to come that accompanies the season.

Chapters in Jars, Galerie Stephanie

Unit 1B Parc Plaza Bldg., 183 E. Rodriguez Jr. Ave., Quezon City
Jan. 14 to 28

Japanese potters have played between perfection and sentimental faults: a paradox that inspires contemporary visual artist Vincent de Pio’s seventh solo show. “Chapters in Jars” plays with the idea of control during the preparation of raw materials, shaping and firing the jars, and the freedom behind choosing a jar’s purpose and the stories they have yet to contain.

We Shall Meet In The Place Where There Is No Darkness, Artinformal Makati

The Alley at Karrivin, 2316 Chino Roces Ave. Ext., Makati City
Jan. 11 to Feb. 8

Using antique frames, found ephemera, graphite, and paint, Dan Barry’s latest solo exhibition offers a glimpse into the artist’s psyche by highlighting emotion and empathy as a universal language. The visual narratives presented in “We Shall Meet In The Place Where There Is No Darkness” evokes a sense of nostalgia, wonderment, and hope for the audience through the individual works or the collection as a whole.

On the Rocks, Space Encounters Gallery

Unit 7D, Padilla Bldg., F. Ortigas Jr. Rd., Ortigas Center, Pasig City
Jan. 21

Inspired by the geological history and formation of the Warnecke Ranch and Vineyards, Hersley Casero’s “On the Rocks” is an extension of an exhibit he held during his say at the Chalk Hill Artist Residency in September 2019. The works featured in this exhibit are illustrated using a 7B pencil and feature ceramic installation pieces that pay homage to rocks and their formations.
