Commuter girlies, a limited-edition P500 ‘Spoliarium’ beep card is here to flex your art creds on the train

The limited-edition beep card is in commemoration the 140th anniversary of Juan Luna’s masterpiece “Spoliarium”

To my commuter girlies who like to serve on the LRT and the MRT, here’s the latest “it” accessory for those of us who are always on the go: a limited-edition “Spolarium” Beep card.

To commemorate the 140th anniversary of Juan Luna’s masterpiece “Spoliarium,” the National Museum of Fine Arts partnered with AF Payments Inc. for a Beep card that features the artist and his notable artwork.

Currently on display at the National Museum, Luna’s oil on canvas depiction of dying gladiators won the gold medal at the 1884 Exposición Nacional de Bellas Artes in Madrid. The 4.22 meters x 7.675 meters painting welcomes visitors at the first floor of the National Museum.

The revered artist and murderer (he was acquitted on grounds that it was a crime of passion) spent eight months to complete the painting, which was initially sold to the provincial government of Barcelona before it found its way back home to the country.

Last year, the National Museum also released four limited-edition Beep cards featuring the facades of the National Museums of Fine Arts, Natural History, Anthropology, and the National Museum of the Philippines Cebu in celebration of Museums and Galleries Month.

Where to buy?

The “Spoliarium” Beep card is available at the newly-opened National Museum Employees’ Multipurpose Cooperative Mobile Museum Shop at the 2F Osmeña Hall, National Museum of Fine Arts for P500.
