A totally grandiose event  was when world-renowned John Walker & Sons Voyager docked in Manila in celebration of “journeys without boundaries,” dahlings.

The gig especially paid tribute to the Walker family “whose unwavering vision took the brand beyond a small town in Scotland to exotic new lands across the seas, and the indelible impact they left on history,” said James Thompson, Diageo chief marketing officer for Asia Pacific.

Voyager is a gorgeous ocean-sailing yacht. It is “now in the Philippines, a key port in the original trading routes of the Walker family,” said Arif Esenc, managing director of Diageo Philippines.

This magnificent happening also paid tribute to four outstanding Filipino “game-changers”: businessman and social entrepreneur Joey Concepcion,  fashion designer Rhett Eala, world-renowned furniture designer Kenneth Cobonpue, and internationally known filmmaker Brillante Mendoza.

“It is our honor to have gathered these four remarkable individuals who continue to inspire and revolutionize their respective fields,” said Fe Mir, marketing director of Diageo. “We laud these bold men who are forging a new destiny for the Philippines and for our world. They are exactly the modern epitome of the House of Walker’s founding spirit.”

The bash was très-très chic. Guests were welcomed to the Oceana Event Hall by a big band playing music and by EON president Liana Farrales Carmona and consultant Bibot Nolan.

Good-looking ushers and usherettes escorted us to the magnificent yacht, where they were served the best John Walker drinks, including the unbelievable John Walker brand Odyssey, which goes for, hold your breath, palanggas, an incredible P47,000. Not surprisingly, guests didn’t just sip it, but gulped it down quickly to grab another glass of it. Oh well.

We were told that the Voyager had toured China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. From the Philippines, it will sail for Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore and India. Leading writers, photographers and illustrators from around the region will capture the progress of each port-of-call for the luxury travel guide publication, “Around the World.”

It was a night of glitz and glamour in the exclusive John Walker way!
