will prevent frizz.

I hate my curly hair. It’s always so dull and frizzy and I can’t seem to style it right. Help!

In a sea of long straight hair, curly hair stands out. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with this picture, I can imagine it can be quite a struggle when your hair decides not to cooperate.

Frizz and dullness are some of the things you have to deal with, and no thanks to our year-round humidity, these may happen as often as every other day.

What many of us do not realize is that naturally curly hair requires a specific set of tricks for it to look good. And no, it shouldn’t include a hair straightening fix, as it may only damage your hair.

Learning to love your hair as well as gaining a better understanding of it can turn your locks into your best feature. Getting the right cut and being able to incorporate effective hair styling tips into your routine will help your gain a new look you’ll love.

Moisturize, moisturize. Curly hair has a tendency to be dry and parched. As a result, it soaks up as much moisture as it can from the air. This causes hair cuticles to expand in hot and humid weather and end up with frizzy, unmanageable hair.

A healthy dose of moisture-infusing conditioners and hair masks will prevent locks from frizzing up. Stock up on moisturizing conditioners for your hair—as much as you can get your hands on. This includes leave-on conditioners, rinse-off conditioners and deep treatment hair masks.

Get the right cut. Short hair may seem like an easy solution to curly hair, but it may only exacerbate the problem. Shorter hairstyles have a tendency to poof up, which may prove to be difficult to style. Curls need length to weigh them down, making curly hair look better when it grows below the shoulders or longer. Getting a blunt, below-the-shoulder cut with minimal layers is your best bet.

Invest in a comb. Remember that when styling your curly hair, the brush is your enemy. Using a comb or even your fingers is the best way to untangle your hair without breaking your curls. And the less your comb, the better your curls look, so restrict your untangling to after-showers only.
