Dec. 21 is not the end of the world!

With the fast-approaching dreaded date of Dec. 21, 2012, which the Mayan Calendar has predicted to be the end of the fifth and last Earth Cycle, there has been renewed interest around the world about what that date could mean to the fate of Planet Earth and its billions of inhabitants.

Doomsday prophets

Many have expressed apprehension about that date because of the false impression spawned by Hollywood and other doomsday prophets that the date signaled the end of the world. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Nowhere in the Long Count Mayan Calendar did it say that the world would end on Dec. 21. The date merely indicated the end of the fifth Earth cycle. You see, the Maya people did not consider time as serial the way we do. They consider it to be cyclical, following the cosmic cycle of birth and rebirth. So, as one cycle ends, another cycle begins.

The calendar describes events spanning 26,000 years, divided into five earth cycles or Sun, beginning in the year 3114 BC and ending on Dec. 21, 2012. The calendar is based on the movements of the planets and climate changes and other heavenly activities like solar flares and eclipses of the sun and the moon. It does not talk about the end of the world.

Natural calamities

So, what made people think the Mayan calendar predicted the end of the world? Because it said that the end of each Earth cycle is preceded by unprecedented natural calamities, such as earthquakes, great floods, volcanic eruptions and climatic changes.

Since we are now on the fifth and last cycle, the planets will complete the alignment they did 26,000 years ago, and these calamities will bring about great changes on Earth. In other words, toward the fifth cycle, the Earth will be transformed.

This is already happening. Have you not noticed there are more floods happening in places that did not have floods before? There are also more violent and more frequent solar flares or storms compared to previous years, as confirmed by Nasa. The polar ice caps are melting at an unprecedented rate that will bring about a dangerous rise of the ocean water levels.

A recent study reported by Reuters News recently said, “Sea levels are rising faster than the UN predicted, threatening low-lying areas from Miami to the Maldives.”

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change study released in 2007 said, “seas could rise between 18-59 cm this century, not counting a possible acceleration of the melting of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets that could add more water to the oceans.”

Shift in consciousness

All these physical changes require a shift in human consciousness if we are to allay fears of what the near future brings. As my friend, Dr. James J. Hurtak, president of the Academy of Future Science, said in his letter dated December 2011:

“There has been increased awareness of a shift, reaching around the world… We all need to have open minds as new realities begin to emerge. Increasing evidence exists today showing there is NOW a greater need for inner reflection concerning the Truth about our mission and the greater universe. This, for many, is leading to the understanding that we need to take a higher path by using our increasing spiritual and intuitive abilities.”

What the Mayan Calendar prophecies indicate is that the old world order will soon be replaced by a new, more enlightened world order.
