Drape a holiday garland

GARLAND draping

Think outside the box, or in this case, outside the usual Christmas tree. Give your furniture a festive touch this Christmas by draping a decorated garland on it. It can look cutesy or elegant, depending on your taste. The trick is to do this step by step, organizing the elements you want to put in it.

Basic materials:

Garland (in this picture, we used half of a nine-foot garland)

Wire and nail, to secure garland

Faux leaves such as eucalyptus or gold leaves, pine cones

Hanging ornaments

Nylon string or ribbon for your ornaments

1. Spread out the branches of your garland. Position the garland above the cabinet so that it looks naturally draped and secure. For added strength, you may secure the garland with a wire anchored to a nail at the top of the cabinet.

2. Position the faux leaves, keeping the leaves in one general direction to give the arrangement a good visual flow.

3. Take your ornaments and hang them unevenly on the lowest part of the garland, as shown.

Tip: Always take a step back to view your work to get a sense of balance that will please your eye or feels right for you. Don’t be afraid to add or take out—it’s all part of the fun!
