Rockin’ stud

MATERIALS: old studded belt, tape measure, pencil, peeler and a cap

After studded shoes and studded bags come studded belts and, now, studded caps.

Turn your boring caps into interesting rocker-inspired headgear, and bring out the rugged rebel in you. Let’s get those hands working!

Things you’ll need:

1. Studs or old studded belt

2. Tape measure or ruler

3. Cap

4. Peeler or butter knife

5. Pencil

If you don’t own an old pyramid-studded belt like mine, you can buy different types of studs from lace shops in malls. The prices vary according to the sizes and designs of the studs. They go for around P30-P90 a pack, and you can just sew them or glue them on the cap as you style it.

Procedure:

1 This is what the back of the studded belt looks like. You need a peeler or a butter knife so it will be easier to remove the clamped studs from the leather. Use the tip of the peeler to straighten and loosen the studs’ clamps.

2 Flip the belt after removing the clasps of the studs, and use the tip of the peeler to disentangle it from the leather. Be careful because the peeler is very pointy, and so are the studs.

3 Now, with the style in mind, prepare the cap.  I measured the flap of the cap to ensure  the balanced arrangements of the studs. Use your pencil as  marker so it’s  easier  to see if the spacing is steady.

4 If you’re using the same studs I’m using, you can  pin them on the cap’s fabric. Make sure the studs are hitting the pencil marks so the studs are aligned and spaced well. Do this when you’re gluing your studs on your caps.

THE FINISHED stud cap

5 This is how the pierced stud looks like inside the cap. Make sure the studs are well-placed, their pointed tips clamped well before flattening them with the peeler.  Repeat with each stud until you finish your design.

Be attentive and imaginative so you can see how you can transform the tedious things around you. I see these studded caps sold for about P1,000 online; you can get yours at a low price, and give it your personal stamp.  Thumbs up for another great deal.

Polish up this hip look with the right rocker attitude, and you’re good to go. Remember, why buy, when you can DIY?
