7 artists and galleries auctioning their art for COVID-19 relief efforts

During the pandemic, some artists have used their talent and skill for a better cause, auctioning off artworks worth thousands which are then given to COVID-19 relief efforts. These artists—painters, graphic designers, sculptors—are proving that art can be used to help society at a time when it’s most needed.

 

Vinyl On Vinyl

 

Under the “Art for Life” fundraising program, Vinylonvinyl is featuring artworks for sale on their Instagram page. A number of artists, including Wyndelle Ramone, Pey Reymond, Ciane Xavier and Bjorn Calleja, have auctioned off their pieces with 100 percent of the proceeds given to purchasing medical equipment for frontliners. 

 

Louie Cordero

Abstract and surrealist artist Louie Cordero, also known as Lolo Buko, has taken on the challenge of creating one artwork per day for thirty days. All donations will be donated to COVID-19 relief efforts. Follow his Instagram for photos his works.

 

Onin Lorente

International fashion photographer Onin Lorente is selling prints and digital wallpapers of his photographs through his “Print for a Cause” fundraiser. Included in his website are other artists donating their works, such as Jenny Peñas, Alving Rodriguez and Jude Macasinag. Their sales will be donated to Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital.

 

Space Encounters Gallery

This art gallery, an offshoot of an interior design firm and mid-century modern furniture brand, is curating an online exhibit and fundraising event for COVID-19 relief efforts called “Art for Science.” For sale are works of painters Wipo, Mark “KLDT” Copino, Jem Magbanua, Nonie Cruzado and more upcoming artists. Twenty-five percent of the profit will be donated to local scientific research facility to fight the pandemic.

 

Courage Cebu

 

Courage Cebu is a fundraising organization that aims to support medical frontliners and others who have been affected by COVID-19 in Cebu City. The organization is selling not only artworks, but also jewelry and fashion accessories. Included are some notable fashion sketches from Rajo Laurel. Proceeds will go to purchasing personal protective equipment, food packages  and personal hygiene items for frontliners and daily wage earners.

 

Alternative Apartment

Alternative Apartment, a studio and printing service, has partnered with some volunteer artists and photographers to help with COVID-19 relief efforts. Included in their roster of volunteers are photojournalist Jilson Tiu, Geric Cruz and illustrators Rob Bautista and Gregg Louise. Postcards of their works will be sold in sets and all proceeds will be used for their beneficiary organization, Help for Health Movement, and their hugot packs for frontliners. Each pack contains snacks, drinks, medicine and personal hygiene items. As of May 4, they have raised P87,996.

 

Jill Arteche

Jill Arteche, an illustrator and graphic designer known for her caricature-like characters, has set up a fundraiser by selling postcards with COVID-19 themes. Proceeds will go to purchasing personal protective equipment for San Lazaro Hospital and food packs for vulnerable families at Brgy. Sto. Cristo, San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.
