On rainy days, fill your belly with hot ramen

Ramen Rain

I don’t know what it is about the gloomy weather, but it makes me crave certain types of food like warm noodle soup dishes. Lately, it’s been ramen. All I want right now is piping hot bowl of creamy broth, noodles, and soft pork accompanied by side dishes.

I’m sure I’m not the only who has been having the same craving lately. If you’re able to leave your homes today and need a nice meal to lift your spirits, here’s where you can go.

Mendokoro Ramenba

What to order: Shio ramen and three pieces gyoza

Perhaps the most-talked about ramen spot in Manila lately has been Mendokoro. Even before the Ellen Adarna drama, people have been lining up for their noodles. Their rich broth and tender chasu is delicious but be prepared to wait in line for a while. I also suggest getting the gyoza, a great companion for the hot ramen. Located at Icon Plaza, 26th Street, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City.

Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen

What to order: Ajitama tonkotsu and edamame

If you like toppings, try out this bowl of noodles from Ikkoryu Fukuoka. This has seaweed and some other vegetables. The special addition is a soft-boiled egg. This is equally as rich as the soy sauce-based soup. In between slurps, you can also enjoy their tamago. Located at 3/F Century City Mall, Kalayaan Avenue, Poblacion, Makati City.

Wrong Ramen

What to order: Tonkotsu rich and crispy fried egg add-on

Ramen is a dish you crave for when you want to indulge, so why not going for something rich? Wrong Ramen’s Tonkotsu bowl has deep bone pork broth, chasu, spring onions, and mushrooms. They also offer a variety of add-ons like a crispy fried egg. This will add both flavor and trexture to the meal. Located at Forbestown Road, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City.

Oyasumi Ramen

What to order: La Paz ramen and cold sake

Ramen is a traditional Japanese dish but some have given it their own twist. Oyasumi Ramen has a La Paz dish that blends Japanese and Filipino flavors. It is described as a “mix of traditional ramen with flavors from smooth pork blood, crunchy chicharon bits, and garlic.” To go along with this, order some cold sake. Located at Unit 3, 308 P. Guevarra Street corner Seaview Street, Little Baguio, San Juan City.

Ramen Kuroda

What to order: Aka chashumen and kani salad

If you’re looking for something spicy, order their Aka chashumen. This one also comes with additional roast pork. When you need a palate cleanser in between bites, order the kani salad on the side. An order of salmon sashimi will also do the trick. Located at 3/F RCBC Plaza, 6819 Ayala Avenue, Makati City.
