Masculine suits, feminine lines
The concept of pure style is brought to an extreme pitch in Emporio Armani’s Spring 2013 collection that reflects a clean attitude, a way of being and expressing yourself that is simple and natural, and never too affected.
A palette comprised of neutral hues with touches of gold/bronze, and a range of warmer cinnamon and spice colors emphasizes the soft forms and perfect shapes. The effect is to frame the wearer’s skin as a form of natural makeup.
For day, there is a masculine suit with easy, feminine lines, enhanced by matte opaque silk: the trousers are straight and soft and tight at the bottom; jackets have regular shoulders and a barely marked waist, and there are matching light skirts, shorts and tops in the same fabrics and colors.

Indian kurta-, seaman’s uniform-inspired menswear
For spring-summer 2013, Bottega Veneta offers a collection inspired by the ease and informality of the pullover. The near-universal garment—a top that is pulled on over the head—recalls clothing as varied as navy seaman’s uniforms and South Asian kurtas.
At Bottega Veneta, it’s casual and lightweight, with a breezy, retro sensibility. Narrow, cropped pants worn with pullover shirts and T-shirts have the effortless feel of sportswear. The slim, natural-looking silhouette is enhanced by nuanced tailoring and offhand layering.
Natural leather hues ground a palette filled with tempered shades of blue and gray. Breezy, luxe materials are drawn from unexpected sources.
Refined fabrics from womenswear—silk chiffon, organza, silk poplin, silk crepe de chine and parachute silk—are washed and treated, frequently paired with cotton, then used for shirts, windbreakers, anoraks and jackets.

Tough and sweet
For spring 2013, Bottega Veneta considers the ways in which clothes can be at once tough-minded and sweet-natured. The collection ranges from angular, precisely tailored looks to soft, fluid pieces, all sharing a distinctive silhouette, a polished air, and the ultimately private experience of extraordinary workmanship.
The starting point is a strong, padded shoulder and short sleeve. The rest of the silhouette is slim, with a narrow waist and long hem. Skirts and dresses end mid-calf, some rigid and architectural in construction, with a slit or pleat for movement, others sinuous and draped. Pants are high-waisted and lanky, worn with tunics, shirts or wind breakers that extend the long line.
Spring shoes are high and substantial, with a cutaway platform, squared toe and hefty heel. Jewelry made of sterling silver and enamel reflects the geometric aspect of the tailored silhouette, with faceted planes and glossy expanses of black, white and peach. Hand-woven nappa handbags, by contrast, look seemingly unfinished, with a rough-hewn sensibility that belies the workmanship involved in their making.
Of special note this season is the Studio bag, a reinterpretation of the classic briefcase. With a top handle and shoulder strap, it is an eccentric combination of competence and chic.
