Janine Tugonon arrives in Manila

MANILA, Philippines–Janine Tugonon arrived in Manila Saturday after winning the first runner-up spot in the Miss Universe pageant.

Tugonon landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport at around 6 a.m. via a Philippine Airline flight from Las Vegas.

It was  Miss USA Olivia Culpo who bagged the crown at the 61st Miss Universe pageant held at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas on Wednesday night (Thursday morning in Manila)

Tugonon came in second, while Miss Venezuela, Irene Sofia Esser Quintero, placed third.

Rounding up the Top 5 were Australia’s Renae Ayris, who placed fourth and Brazil’s Gabriela Markus, who placed fifth.

Tugonon’s first runner-up finish marked the third straight year that the Philippines finished in the pageant’s Top 5. Last year’s Miss Philippines, Shamcey Supsup, placed fourth, while Venus Raj finished fifth in 2010.
