This drive-thru grocery store is opening soon in Iloilo City

The pandemic has halted the operations of so many businesses, and for some, this became the starting point to innovate to keep operations running. Last July 31, SM Pampanga Amphitheater launched its drive-in movie theater—which is the very first in the country. Now, MerryMart follows this move by announcing a drive-thru grocery store in the works.

On Aug. 14, MerryMart Consumer Corp. revealed plans to open its first drive-thru store in Iloilo this Jan. 2021. Specifically, it will be located beside St. Joseph School along Diversion Road in Iloilo City. Along with the announcement, the grocery store also shared a perspective image of the upcoming drive-thru store.

Chosen as the first area to have this “new concept,” Iloilo is the home city of the grocery store chain’s chairperson Edgar “Injap” Sia II, who is also the founder of Mang Inasal. According to Inquirer, Sia said that they also plan to offer drive-thru options in “various major thoroughfares.”

With the goal of opening a total of 25 outlets for 2020, MerryMart also announced the opening of new branches in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat and Bulua, Cagayan de Oro this month.

Earlier in July, ACT-CIS Rep. Niña Taduran proposed the establishment of drive-thru services and pickup points in supermarkets nationwide as a way to reduce the risk of exposure to COVID-19. Other businesses have also offered grocery delivery services, including these ones that offer fresh fruits and vegetables that we’ve gathered on our list.
