“Heritage and History of the University of Santo Tomas” gathers the papers delivered during the December 2011 international conference organized by the UST Faculty of Arts and Letters and UST Graduate School with the support of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
The papers covered such issues as ancient documents and maps at the UST Archives, and UST’s pioneering programs and achievements in the liberal arts, humanities, medicine, sciences, visual arts, architecture, economics, journalism, music, medical and health sciences, and heritage and art conservation.
Contributors include John Crossley, emeritus professor of Monash University, Australia; Mariana Svetlana Camacho of the University of Navarre, Pamplona, Spain; Regalado Trota José, National Commission for Culture and the Arts commissioner; Florentino H. Hornedo, former Unesco commissioner; Alice Colet Villadolid, former New York Times correspondent and press undersecretary under President Corazon C. Aquino; Eric Babar Zerrudo of the UST Center for Conservation of Cultural Property and the Environment in the Tropics; historian Augusto de Viana; literary writers J. Neil Garcia, Rebecca Añonuevo, José Wendell Capili, Ronald Baytan, and Ferdinand Lopez; and Maria Bernardita Reyes, founding president of the Philippine Association of Scientific Conservation.
To be launched as well is the two-volume history of UST by the renowned Spanish Dominican historian Fr. Fidel Villarroel, OP, “A History of the University of Santo Tomas, 1611–2011.”
