One woman who must have put the word “charm” in the dictionary is Carole Young, dahlings. She’s president of the London-based International Inner Wheel, “the friendship and service organization of the ladies of Rotary,” says its brochure.
Young jetted to the country full of excitement to open the Inner Wheel Club of the Philippines’ national conference at the Manila Hotel. She was also here to check out the service projects of the affiliate clubs in our town, dahlings.
The day she arrived, Young immediately had a taste of Manille hospitality. She got an excellent welcome dinner co-hosted by the IW Philippines, IW Philippines Foundation and the IW Council of Past Presidents, headed by Margie Ortiz Luis, Sofie Lee and Vel Religioso.
The al fresco dinner took place at the sprawling Greenhills home of Nonie Basilio, a former president of IW Philippines.
Also at the dinner were Esther Vibal, the first Filipino and Asian president of IW International, and Vicky Magadia.
Aside from IW officers and members, Rotarians also attended the dinner.
Dressed in colorful Filipiniana attires, the IW Philippines officers presented Young with token gifts.
Young expressed her “appreciation for the tremendous hospitality and goodwill accorded to me by my hosts since my arrival.”
She added: “My Philippine experience is one that will surely go into my book of delightful memories.”
Cheers!
Glorietta fashion show
Ayala Land pulled all the stops when it opened Glorietta 1, making it again the premier shopping destination in Makati.
Three stores of broad lobbies and cavernous open spaces make the Glorietta seem like a cathedral offering the best Filipino and foreign brands.
One of the Glorietta stalwarts is the Edgar Allan Boutique, dahlings, which has been in Glorietta for three decades now.
In fact, busy welcoming guests to the dinner and fashion show right in front of their shop was Edgar Allan himself and his business partner, Rene M. Tiongco, merchandiser extraordinaire and a summa cum laude graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology of the State University of New York.
Toyota VP Raymond Rodriguez and wife Felicia were among the guests.
Tall and sultry Pia Rodriguez modelled in the fashion show.
John Robert Powers stylist Shyla Anareta was on-hand for Pia’s hair and makeup.
Looking at the collection of formal and career dresses with the keenest of eyes were Tina Novenario Eloriaga, president of the Glorietta Merchants Association, and Annie Salonga of the très chic Milani shoes.
Rene’s sister, Dr. Ida Tiongco, whose dermatology practice is in Manhattan’s uppity Upper East Side, flew in with husband Alex Sarmiento just for the occasion, dahlings.
Naturellement, dahlings, the dazzling star of the evening was none other than the Edgar Allan Boutique, where you can purchase an original, one-of-a-kind outfit and wedding gown, palangga.
