Summertime and the Learning is Easy

WHAT’S the best way to keep your children out of your hair this summer without bonding them to their mobile phones, their laptops and cable TV? Why not enroll them at the 2011 Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) Summer Theater Arts Workshop? They’re in for an enjoyable and unique artistic experience that would also boost their self-esteem.

PETA’s Children’s Theater courses allow children (ages 6-12) to explore and experience music, movement and dance, visual arts, storytelling, drama improvisation, poetry and short story writing. Coupled with fun and games, PETA’s creative processes will also develop and enrich every child’s imagination, inspiration, self-confidence, and appreciation of self, others, nature and culture.

Teens and adults can also enroll in PETA’s various Theater Arts courses, such as: Teen Theater (ages 13-17), Teen Theater Production (ages 13-17), Theater Arts (ages 17 and up) and Basic Acting classes (ages 17 and up). Each course is designed to provide basic knowledge, skills and attitudes to budding stage actors. Participants will also learn various acting styles and study the artistic and technical components of theater production.

Workshop courses such as: Creative Dance Theater (ages 17 and up), Creative Musical Theater (ages 17 and up), and Musical Theater for Young People (ages 13-21), allow participants to explore the use of music, dance and movement as a form of artistic expression in a theater setting, while the course Visual Arts for Young People (ages 13-17), introduces them to the colorful world of painting, drawing and other media.

Special courses are also offered to educators and teachers to improve their teaching competency by introducing them to the integrated arts approach through the Theater-In-Education workshop and Culture-Based Teaching of the Basic Education Curriculum workshops.

Aside from the month-long classes, PETA is also offering a one-day lecture series in the field of Stage Management, Technical Theater and Make-up for Theater, as well as four-hour lectures on Music Appreciation, Song Writing, and Choreography.

Enrollment is ongoing until April. For inquiries and slot reservations, contact PETA Marketing and Public Relations Office at Tel. No. 725-6244, 410-0821 or 0917-5769339, petatheater@gmail.com.
