Ballet classes for summer start April 1

THE 10-WEEK workshop culminates in a concert at the CCP.

The Perry Sevidal Ballet Summer Intensive will hold classes on April 1-June 5. The teaching system not only equips students with the right technique but also the proper attitude and discipline.

 

The 10-week workshop covers classical ballet, pointe work, modern dance, children’s tap, jazz, mat Pilates and karate.

 

The faculty consists of Perry Sevidal, Lina Peralejo, Naomi Jaena,  Judell de Guzman, Gerardo Francisco, Susan Justimbaste-Decena, Peter Alcedo Jr. and KDA-Sensei Cesar Unson Jr.

 

Classes cover all levels from baby ballet to adult ballet. The workshop will culminate in a concert, PSB Recital XIX, on June 5 at the CCP’s Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo.

 

The program will consist of neoclassic works of Brando Miranda, former principal dancer of Ballet Philippines and New Zealand Ballet, and Osias Barroso, associate artistic director and former principal dancer of Ballet Manila (BM). Guest artists are Francis Jaena, Harold Salgado and Anselmo Dictado.

 

Excerpts from “Coppelia” will focus on the children choreographed by  Naomi Jaena, Ballet Manila company member; Susan Decena, dance faculty member of Assumption College, with stints at Tanghalang Pilipino;  Lina Peralejo; and Perry Sevidal, former ballet mistress of Ballet Philippines.

 

“Pas d’Esclave” from “La Bayadere” will be restaged by Eileen Lopez, rehearsal mistress and senior soloist of BM.

 

The modern repertoire includes “Okir,” by Gawad CCP awardee Agnes Locsin, set to the music of Joey Ayala;  and new works by Peter Alcedo Jr., director-choreographer of De La Salle Dance Troupe; Susan Decena; Kris-Belle Paclibar, former principal dancer of Ballet Philippines; Gerardo Francisco, junior principal dancer of BM and resident choreographer; and finale by Marissa Aboitiz, associate artistic director of PSB.
