The Gabi ng Parangal at Pasasalamat is an annual event that is San Beda’s way of recognizing the efforts and activities of the student organizations of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) in San Beda College, which is organized by the Student Council (SC) and the Office of the Prefect of Student Activities (Opsa).

This year’s Gabi ng Parangal was held at Palacio de Manila on March 14, and was the best Gabi ng Parangal yet, for three reasons.

First, it was held outside the San Beda campus for the first time, making it bigger and more elegant. Second, this year’s Gabi ng Parangal included some innovations, such as recognizing external partners, school administrators and employees.

Lastly, the Gabi ng Parangal 2013 was the best not because of the elegant setup of the event, or the awards given, but because the event proved what Bedan brotherhood and excellence meant among the Bedan student leaders.

With an average score of 96.79 percent, the Management and Entrepreneurship Society (ManSoc) was recognized as Best Organization in San Beda College. As one of the top JMAs in the Philippines, the San Beda Junior Marketing Association (SBJMA) followed closely with a score of 96.58 percent.

The Psychology Society of San Beda College (PSSBC) garnered the third spot with a score of 96.08 percent.

Meanwhile, SBJMA captured three special awards: the Best Academic Related Activity for Marketing Research 2012, Best Cultural Activity for Marketing Crossover, and #Choose

SanBeda as the Best Intra-School Activity.

The Gabi ng Parangal was also the time to recognize the Exemplary Students of San Beda. Kerwin Mayor and Kimbee Lim were the Exemplary Students for Academics. In the field of Parish Involvement, Mark Joseph Santos was honored for the Exemplary Student Award. Lastly, Student Council president Hannah Barrantes was recognized as the Exemplary Student for Leadership.

The Best Organization Moderators were also recognized for their contributions to the success of their respective organizations. Professor Marie Jocelyn Bengco of PSSBC, lawyer Jennifer Balboa of the Junior Bedan Law Circle (JBLC), professor Maria Pamela Tendero of SBJMA and engineer Zernan De Ramos of ManSoc were awarded.

CAS Vice-Dean Dr. Christian Bryan Bustamante and Department of Marketing Management chair professor Maria Pamela Tendero were awarded  Best Administrators of the Year. Norberto Opinano, a janitor at San Beda College, was awarded the Non-Teaching Personnel Award.

This year’s Gabi ng Parangal at Pasasalamat did not only recognize Bedan excellence, but was also a thank you for all the blessings the Bedan community received for the whole year.
