Jacky, Erika, a smile and a wedding

JACKY and Erika Chan

Theirs was a simple, casual meeting that blossomed into a special love story.

Jacky Chan was at his favorite Makati bar to unwind after a hectic workday and saw this nice, cute and petite woman seated with a friend at a table across where he was seated. Their eyes met and Jacky smiled. The lady smiled back.

Jacky’s best friend Michael del Rosario, who was with him that night, caught that fleeting exchange and immediately prodded his friend to ‘‘act.” He has been pushing Jacky to find Ms Right for some time now, afraid he might end up an old bachelor. Jacky hesitated for a moment, but mustered enough courage and went to the table where the girl, Erika Ann Solis, was seated. Jacky introduced himself and asked if they could be friends; Erika, again, simply smiled.

That brief encounter led to telephone calls, dine-outs and home visits by Jacky. A Management Information System graduate of Ateneo de Manila University, and working as a computer programmer, Jacky always found time to be with Erika, a resident nurse at Accenture (she is a Nursing graduate of Far Eastern University).

On March 15, or a little more than two years after that “lovely smile encounter,” Jacky and Erika tied the knot at Our Lady of the Abandoned Parish in Marikina City. Reception followed at Sentrong Pangkultura ng Marikina, more popularly known as Kapitan Moy ancestral house, located just across the street from the church.

Jacky finally found his Ms Right; Erika won her Mr Right with that smile.
