Lately, we have been looking around for places where we can set up branches of our restaurant, Wooden Spoon. Based on the response of our diners, we are encouraged to expand all over the metropolis and eventually in the Visayas, Mindanao and abroad.
In these explorations, we have come across potential locations and have also discovered new restaurants worth sharing. Many of them are run by graduates of the various culinary schools around. To me, a handful have potential but most need more experience before facing this very demanding market.
One way of deciding on trying something new is to rely on tips from my foodie friends.
One type of cuisine I need no tip in trying though are places with signs that say any of these: Ribs, burgers, fried chicken and sandwiches. These are my weaknesses. I am always curious on what new taste I will discover in these new dining places.
We were recently invited by a church mate, Ms. Jakki Yu to a place she manages along Shaw Boulevard. The place is called Size Matters, flamed grilled sausage burgers. They have, a variety of burgers, chicken wings, all day breakfast, pasta, fries and shakes. Love it.
On the menu are sausage burgers and all beef burgers that are either ¼ pound or ½ pound. Sausage links are either six or 12 inches long. Choices include Bratwurst with cheese, Hungarian, Kielbasa and Schublig.
Breakfast in bed or BIB is breakfast sausage patty with crisp bacon, fried egg, cheddar, lettuce, tomatoes on an English muffin. LBJ which I had and loved is a ½ pound Italian sausage patty with caramelized onions, Monterey Jack, garlic cream cheese, lettuce, tomatoes on an oat bun. BSB or beef and sausage burger, garlic mushrooms, Havarti cheese, lettuce, onions, tomatoes and an oat bun. And lastly, the TWB or the works burger which has Monterey jack stuffed patty with bacon, cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, garlic mushrooms, blue or garlic cream cheese on an oat bun. I can imagine the chef creator behind this cannot be anything else but a true blooded foodie full of yummy imagination.
My daughter Danielle loved her carbonara, while Paxy enjoyed his cheese steak sandwich which I thought was quite good, too. I loved the wedge fries. They were moist inside and nice and crunchy outside. The buffalo wings were also good dipped in the blue cheese dressing. The Chocolate milkshake was made from thick ice cream.
I will forever be attracted to dining places like these. I like to be surprised by places such as these.
How can work be tough when all we do is look around and in the process discover new dining places. God is Good!
Happy eating!
