High-society magazine Philippine Tatler welcomed over 230 awesome invitees to the formal release of Philippine Tatler Traveller, Volume 2, at Tin Hau, the superb Chinese gourmet restaurant of the chic Mandarin Oriental, Manila. The event was supported by Visa.

Renowned architect and interior designer Chito Antonio helped style the room, and the gorgeous flower arrangements placed on oriental vases were such a standout, palanggas.

Large, frameless TVs from LG played a silent loop that brought the viewer into the pages of the magazine along with a very trendy video on Visa’s latest offerings. The mega-clear quality of the screens was so good that one felt like jumping into the picture!

You’ll just have to check this latest volume of Tatler Traveller. It features loads of interesting stories and articles that live up to its mission, that is to be “the insider’s guide to luxury travel” as Mia Borromeo, its editor, put, dahlings.

ANTON San Diego, Mayenne Carmona

The new edition has travel tales by Isabel Caro Wilson about her journeys through Eastern Europe; Mandy Eduque’s account of his Mediterranean cruise which led to him becoming a cruise convert; Patsy Zobel de Ayala’s discovery of the magic of the Maldives; Bobby Cuenca’s exploration of a private Tuscan garden; Hindy Weber-Tantoco’s visit to the artistic haven of Santa Fe; Cristina Villanueva’s thoughts about the richness of art and culture in mysterious Marrakesh; and Glenn Gale’s account of Sri Lanka, a land of contrasting natural beauty and ancient history.

The cover story was shot on location at Dhara Dhevi, Chiang Mai. Cover girl is gorgeous  Vivien Tan-Vaca, no less, dahlings.

There are several features on food and wine, such as an exhilarating story on Seattle, the coffee capital, by Roberto Francisco.

Enjoy looking at Tatler’s 10 most beautiful spa properties around Asia and find out about the latest resorts in Mactan, Panglao and Coron… as well as what is new in Siem Reap and what is essential in planning your African safari.

With such an awesome international lineup of features, it followed that the food served would be varied and appeal to a most sophisticated palate.

MANDARIN Oriental Hotel’s Charisse Chuidian andGMPeter Pysk; Sandy Poblador

Served were Peking duck rolls, Szechuan-style marinated jellyfish, smoked salmon, Parma ham with melon, assorted dumplings, chicken tandoori skewers, vegetable samosas, pea risotto, and a delectable selection of desserts and, naturellement, the chilled bubbly and red wine was pouring endlessly, as were a selection of Tatler signature drinks such as the classic lychee martinis perfect for this hot-hot summer.

To cap the festivities, Irene Martel Francisco, managing director of Philippine Tatler, and Borromeo raffled off wow prizes: a pair of classic stud earrings with two golden South Sea pearls set in 18-karat gold from Jewelmer; a three-day, two-night stay at Crimson Resort and Spa Mactan; a Josie Natori kaftan; three exclusive gift packs by Shiseido with luxurious products and pampering facials; a Sony NWZ-Z1050 Walkman Z Series phone; an international travel insurance policy from Paramount’s Global Travel Protect; and two special summer gift sets from Ipanema.

This chi-chi fun gathering lasted way past the hour designated and who cares, everyone was having a great time. The Tatler staff, Iain Jamieson and Agnes Padilla of Visa, and Charisse Chuidian, Peter Pysk and Oliver Kreuzer of the Mandarin were thrilled at the incredible turnout.

‘Dirty Dancing’

Manila is set to have the time of its life with the Philippine tour of the international musical production “Dirty Dancing,” at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, with 22 shows starting July 4.

Written by Eleanor Bergstein and based on the 1980s sexy musical film starring Patrick Swayze, “Dirty Dancing” has been seen by five million people worldwide.

The smash-hit musical tells the classic story of Baby and Johnny, two fiercely independent young spirits from different worlds, who come together in what will be the most challenging and triumphant summer of their lives.

Presented by Visa, “Dirty Dancing—The Classic Story on Stage” is a reimagining of the film, and has been adapted for the stage by the same woman who brought it to the big screen in 1987, Eleanor B. no less.
