WATCH: Fashion designer Ivarluski Aseron: "Success is just being happy with what you're doing" | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

In this installment of “Conversations with…”, I got to sit down and talk to one of my favorite designers Ivarluski Aseron. Friends of mine can attest to how I don’t have any problems re-wearing his creations. I like how they’re timeless but also fresh in terms of details.

Ivar’s ability to make classic pieces exciting comes from his understanding of fabric and construction. He earned this via years of experience and starting from the very basics. I like how he shared his story of sketching out designs when he was young, to the delight and pride of his mother when she found these hidden designs while Ivar was in college.

Eventually, Ivar would work under Bobby Novenario and join fashion competitions. Twenty years later, Ivarluski is one of the most sought after designers for Manila’s best-dressed and among brides who wish to have not just a wedding gown, but also a piece of art.

Ivar, as he’s also referred to, knows not just how to create from his own inspirations. “Structured, minimal, and experimental,” may be how he describes his work. But his understanding of the technical skill necessary in fashion design helps him adapt to the wants and needs of the client. He manages to merge his aesthetics with the client’s vision. But those who keep coming back to his atelier just let Ivar do what he wants. Doing so never fails to end up with a dress that will be a collector’s item in your wardrobe.

Before I get carried away, let me just leave you with the video. I hope you enjoy listening to his insights for young designers and reflections of what he’s learned. I love his definition of making it in the fashion industry: “Sucess is just being happy with what you’re doing…I feel successful because I can express my creativity through my creations and I think that’s success for a designer.”

We asked Ivar some fun questions on riarecommends.com plus details on how you can book an appointment with the designer.
